The Infoblox Keystone DVS module can be optionally added to Infoblox appliances to turn a distributed collection of individual appliances into a robust ID grid. With the Keystone DVS module, appliances communicate and coordinate activities in real time to improve performance, simplify management and ensure continuous service in the event of device and/or WAN link failures. Infoblox appliances linked in an ID grid propagate data updates automatically in real time, eliminating the data update delays – ranging from 15 minutes to an hour or more – that are typical in systems based on standard DNS zone transfers.

For example, in a network with a conventional DNS/DHCP system, a user’s IP address changes when they move from a wireless connection in a conference room to a wired connection in their office, and, as a result, that user may lose access to applications until the address change and associated DNS updates are propagated throughout the network. The Keystone DVS module propagate these data changes immediately, ensuring continuous access to network services. This is especially important in view of the growing use of wireless mobility and IP voice traffic on today’s networks.

The Keystone DVS module also provides resilience against a wide range of adverse conditions, enabling the deployment of NII systems that continue to deliver service even when links and/or units fail, and that automatically resynchronize when links or devices are restored. No other system on the market can deliver a comparable level of local and system-wide availability for critical DNS and DHCP services.

Additional new and improved features of the DNS version 3 module include TSIG support for secure zone transfers and dynamic updates; a new “out-of-band” management port; the use of SSL technology for secure communications between devices; improved search capabilities; and support for additional resource record types, including SRV records for robust integration in Microsoft environments and TXT records for enhanced support of VoIP and anti-spam technologies.
